STEPS TO JOIN THE MUSTANG TRAIL RACE

Steps to join the Mustang Trail race

These are the steps you need to follow to join the Mustang Trail Race(s) in 2020.

1. Register & pay a deposit

The April 2020 edition form is here. Let us know if you have any questions on this form too. We have spaces available (currently) so you will be accepted subject to a check of your running experience. Email directly if you have any pre-registration questions. info@mustangtrailrace.com

2. Book your flight

You need to arrive on the April 4th or earlier. The earliest day you should plan to leave is 17th April, though we would recommend booking a day later so you can enjoy Kathmandu’s temples and have a margin of safety if a Jomsom flight should be delayed or cancelled.

Please give us your flight times via the form here.

You can also reduce costs slightly by taking a bus from Kathmandu > Pokhara (or POK>KTM) instead of flying, but this requires more time (though not more days) as the journey takes around 7 hours rather than 25 minutes for a flight – it is a beautiful journey though! Please enquire.

3. Arrange insurance

We’re not going to extreme altitudes (and we sleep below 4000m which is considered moderate altitude only) so special insurance is not necessary. You should ensure that your insurance covers helicopter evacuation. It is many days by road to reach a hospital should it be necessary making helicopter the preferred option.

Insurance details form is here.

4. Accommodation requirements

Let us know if you need a single room so we can manage it for you. If you need to manage your accommodation yourself outside of the race dates, also let us know!

5. Dietary requirements

Let us know if there is anything you cannot eat! Fill the form in please:

6. Send a passport scan and photo

In order to process the paperwork for the permit Mustang and the Annapurna Conservation Area, we need a scan of the biodata page of your passport, and a passport photograph which we can print. Just send a photo of yourself that conforms a little bit to passport rules – white/plain background, head and shoulders in view, picture taken from eye level etc.

Passport scan and photo form is here.

7. Medical form

We’ve replaced our 8-page paper medical form with an online form which should be much quicker to use and save time and paper. The form is this: medical questionnaire is hosted on the trailrunningnepal site and will be sent to us by email and remain confidential.

8. Complete remaining balance payment!

We’ll send you the information you need to do this.

9. On arrival…

Tourist visa

You can buy a tourist visa on arrival. Information is here. You need a passport photo and $25 or $40 depending on how long you will stay.
We will be there to collect you at the airport, so no need to worry about local currency or taxi drivers. If you wish to get a local SIM card for making calls/SMS the couple of days before and after the race and around Jomsom (coverage map here), you can do in the airport. It costs just a couple of dollars and you need a photo. Ask for NTC which has slightly better coverage in Mustang, but not much better.

10. Sign the disclaimer

Before you run, we’ll need to ask you to sign a disclaimer form. You can do this in Kathmandu, but you can see the disclaimer form here:
